Authors Across America Supports Book ‘Em Foundation and Event

50 Copies of The K-9 Chronicles will be distributed to local children

Bloomington, Ind. - AuthorHouse announced today it has donated fifty copies of The K-9 Chronicles to the Book ‘Em Foundation of Waynesboro, Va. for distribution to local schools and libraries. The 4th Annual Book ‘Em event scheduled for Saturday, October 20, 2007 will feature The K-9 Chronicles author Alan Krugel and Serpico, a veteran
K-9 member of the Los Angeles Police Department.

Krugel believes Serpico, who was shot in the line of duty and had his leg and shoulder amputated, is a role model for young children facing difficult decisions. “Serpico’s commitment and dedication has become an inspiration to those who are at a crossroads in their life,” says Krugel. “Together with the Book ‘Em Foundation, he shows that there are always positive choices to make in life.”

The Book ‘Em Foundation was established to raise awareness of the link between illiteracy and crime rates, and actively prevent future crime by boosting literacy rates among today’s children. “Reading is the basic building block of education,” says Mark Kearney of the Book ‘Em Foundation. “Through our literacy programs, we work to better educate the young members of society and reduce future crime rates to free up federal and local dollars that can be spent on education, rather than housing prisoners.”

The donation is the latest effort by AuthorHouse to support literary arts programs and emerging writers through the Authors Across America campaign, a yearlong national effort to promote literacy, inspire writing, and encourage first-time and previously published authors to make 2007 the year to get published.
